Nancy Nyeland Ritter

Nancy's yearbook bio reads, "To be a torch singer has always been Nancy's secret ambition, but her future plans include college, possibly Stanford, and then to be a housewife. While at Blingum she was active in the A.G.S. Hospitality and Athletics Committees, Pep Club, Scholarship Society, and Commission of School Affairs. She served on the Advisory Board and Commissioner of Girls' Athletics. Nancy was most noted for her scholastic ability which helped her to win the Spanish Award."

In real life, Nancy graduated from Stanford University in 1959 with major emphasis on music. Her career included work as a professional accompanyist, organist, and music educator (now retired). She has worked as an accountant (also now retired). And she has worked as a Positive Self-Esteem counsellor / teacher (mostly retired).

Nancy has lived most of her life on the San Jose area of the Peninsula.. She is widowed with three children and five grandchildren. Nancy currently sings with the St. Ann's Choir* in Palo Alto.

Note (*): From the St. Ann's website: "Since 1963 the St. Ann Choir has dedicated itself to the mission of singing Gregorian Chant as an integral part of Catholic liturgy. In addition to the complete year's cycle of Gregorian chant for Sunday Mass, the choir also performs medieval and Renaissance polyphony and polyphonic masses of the Renaissance for holy days and other feast days."

(24 Mar 2010)A note from classmate Jain (Fairfax) Langston forwarding a note from David Nyeland (BHS'53), brother of classmate Nancy (Nyeland'55) Ritter. David writes "…my sister (Nancy Nyeland) passed away this morning (March 14)…" Nancy was married five times and was Ritter…when she died.
